The Police Association of New Orleans
is pleased to inform our members and subscribers that following
some media attention by PANO relative to a severe lack of ballistic
armor for NOPD personnel, some donations have made to help equip
our members.
Sewell donates protective vests to NOPD
Sewell Cadillac Chevrolet of New Orleans donated 80 protective vests
to the 8th District of the New Orleans Police Department on Thursday.
The donation fills the entire need for vests for the District, which
serves the French Quarter, Central Business District and Warehouse
District, according to a release by the company.
Sewell General Manager Steve Schell presented the donation to Superintendent
Warren Riley at a ceremony at the Sewell dealership this morning.
"The Sewell family is proud to be able to give back to these
first responders," said Steve Schell, general manager of Sewell
Cadillac Chevrolet. "We're calling on other businesses to step
up and help until all NOPD officers are fitted with these much needed
vests."
According to Superintendent Riley, the NOPD is still in need of
approximately 1200 vests which were lost during Hurricane Katrina
or are needed to fit new members of the police force.
"Sewell's generous donation is greatly appreciated,"
said Riley. "These vests keep our men and women and the citizens
of New Orleans safe."
The Police Association of New Orleans would like to publicly
thank Sewell Cadillac for their generous contribution to the safety
of New Orleans Police Officers.
