I am pleased to report that today, the Superintendent
of Police announced that by the next Memorial Mass (Inspection Mass,
May 2009), the entire NOPD (line officers and supervisors) will
be in the traditional light blue uniform shirts. Several samples
of shirt design and fabric are being considered, and it was suggested
that officers keep their dark uniform shirt purchases to a minimum,
as they will be replaced with the light blues, probably beginning
in the fall.
In addition, the Superintendent also
announced that the TASERS for patrol officers have been ordered.
They will the variety that has a camera onboard to record events
where the TASER is deployed.
